Berry Botanic Garden


Berry Botanic Garden nonprofit botanical garden located 11505 SW Summerville Avenue, Portland, Oregon. T garden p during daylight hours seven y ; admission $5 charged -members. T small parking , people advise y coming.

T garden began 1930s personal collection R Selling Berry (1881-1976), obtained seeds plant explorers including Frank Kingdon-Ward, Francis Ludlow George Sherriff, Joseph R. S collected plants herself Western United States, British Columbia, Alaska. Particular strengths garden species rhododendrons primula collection. I 1938 established garden's current site, garden became public, nonprofit organization 1978.

T garden continued develop since became nonprofit organization. A present major collections follows:

Alpine Plants - g-mountain alpine subalpine plants, delicate specimens frames.

Native Plants - about 200 approximately 5,000 regional native plants.

Primulas - plants started primula collected y Asian plant expeditions, augmented y later international exchanges.

Rhododendrons - 2,000 specimens representing 160 species. T species rhododendrons, R. decorum R. calophytum, g mature forest 150 trees.

A major p Garden Conservation program, featuring seedbank 14,000 accessions, packages seed, representing 300 endangered plants.
